Ducato II
In about 1760 Johan Zoffany was sent to Italy by George III to paint portraits of noblemen living in Florence and neighbouring states. As a travelling artist, he would have been given hospitality in these principalities, each one known as a Ducato, by the Duca and his household. The Ducato Fabrics and Damask II Wallpaper Book are based on such velvets, silks and damasks from the 17th and 18th centuries, which would have lined the walls and draped the window of such palaces.
